The future of bananas is under pressure
The people who grow the bananas we love shouldn't have to face climate change alone. Fairer business practices can help farmers build resilience and protect the future of bananas
The importance of bananas
Bananas are one of the world's favourite tropical fruits, found in fruit bowls, lunchboxes and kitchens across the UK. But behind this everyday staple is a global food system that depends on the people and places that make it possible.
What is threatening bananas?
Most people don't realise bananas are facing multiple pressures at once.
Climate change is bringing more droughts, floods and unpredictable weather. Meanwhile disease, rising production costs and commercial pressures are making it harder for farmers to adapt.
Meet the people behind our bananas
Behind every banana is a farmer, worker, family and community.
Climate change isn't a future risk for banana-growing communities. It is already affecting harvests, incomes and livelihoods. The people growing our food should not be left to face these challenges alone.
Choose Fairtrade Bananas
Did you know that all of the bananas in Sainsburys, Waitrose and Coop are Fairtrade?
There are also Fairtrade bananas available in Lidl, Aldi, Tesco, Morrisons, M&S, Ocado and Asda, but they are not exclusively Fairtrade in those stores: look for the Fairtrade label!
