Human Rights and Environmental Due Diligence (HREDD)

Working closely with you and the people who grow the products in your supply chains, Fairtrade can support you to understand and manage risks to ensure you are happy with your own risk management and that you meet regulations. We do this by supporting you to:

embed responsible business through our Standards and work with the people who grow the products we love
identify, assess and mitigate risks
provide tracking or reporting
communicate with farmers and workers so you can share their stories and advocate in the UK
work on specific risk mitigation and resilience building programmes where needed

EUDR

Fairtrade supports all its partners and producers to meet their due diligence requirements, particularly in response to the European Union's Deforestation Regulation (EUDR):

Price and Fairtrade Premium: Fairtrade’s price mechanisms address one of the root causes of deforestation by tackling low producer incomes. The Fairtrade Premium also means producers can better afford to invest in agroforestry initiatives.
Standards and audits: Deforestation is prohibited on Fairtrade coffee and cocoa farms. Regular visits through Fairtrade’s independent auditing partner, FLOCERT, aid compliance and mitigate deforestation risks.
Training and support: Through our Producer Networks, Fairtrade offers farmers training, support and advice on their rights and good agricultural practices. We have a dedicated team to focus on gathering high-quality, farm-level geolocation data.
Access to information: Through our partnership with Satelligence and other global data providers, Fairtrade farmers gain access to advanced satellite mapping technologies. This collaboration equips producers with meaningful, real-time risk data to better manage forest landscapes and proactively address deforestation threats.
Security of supply: By maintaining a stable base of EUDR-aligned suppliers, companies sourcing on Fairtrade terms benefit from greater supply resilience and risk mitigation, safeguarding against disruptions and ensuring continuity of sourcing operations.
