The Fairtrade School Awards
Becoming a Fairtrade School means joining a worldwide movement – a movement where young people learn that, whatever their age, they have the power to make a difference in the world.
Thinking of becoming a Fairtrade school?
Becoming a Fairtrade School means joining a worldwide movement – a movement where young people learn that, whatever their age, they have the power to make a difference in the world.
It offers a great opportunity to look at global issues such as where our food comes from and how we are connected to people around the world. Students can also learn a range of skills, from teamwork and co-operation to persuasive writing to running a stall or tuck shop.
Teaching about Fairtrade fits different curriculum areas, especially Geography, Citizenship and PSHE.
Please note that the Fairtrade School Awards are only for schools in the UK. If your school is not in the UK then check out your local Fairtrade organisation who will be better placed to support you further.

Once you have set up your Fairtrade group, they should think about what they would like to achieve and make short, medium and long-term plans for the group. These can be referred to and updated as you go along in your schools account. Schools use the action plan to think about events, assemblies, peer-to-peer learning opportunities, and to investigate different Fairtrade products that might be used in school, like hot drinks in the staff room or cotton uniform items.
