Fairer Futures Standard
The Fairtrade Fairer Futures Standard is a voluntary add-on standard for Fairtrade certified small-scale producer organisations and their commercial partners who want to go further in improving farmer incomes. It currently applies only to cocoa from Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana.
Principles underlying this Standard
Long-term commitment. Commercial partners commit to sourcing from producer organisations for at least three years, through a written agreement with clear annual minimum volumes. This gives producer organisations the stability to plan and invest.
Paying towards a living income. Commercial partners pay the Fairtrade Living Income Reference Price (LIRP) differential, and producer organisations pass 100% of it on to their members. Mobile payments make these transfers in future even more transparent and traceable.
Investing in farms. Implementation funds support producer organisations to deliver farm services, improve productivity and strengthen household incomes, with clear planning, accounting and reporting.
