Fairtrade West Africa Cocoa Programme - Second Evaluation
The Fairtrade West Africa Cocoa Programme was launched in 2016 on the principle that strong cooperatives are essential to more sustainable cocoa livelihoods. The programme supports cooperatives’ development into high-functioning organisations that successfully respond to the needs of their members as well as commercial partners. More than 270 cooperatives in Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana and now Sierra Leone participate in a tiered programme of training, coaching, advisory and technical support, and peer-to peer-learning, delivered by producer network Fairtrade Africa. Following a first evaluation in 2021 and annual monitoring reports, this evaluation was conducted by Syspons GmbH, and covers the period 2021-2025. From the report: "[The programme] has grown into a flexible, highly relevant, and widely appreciated platform that supports producer organisations in navigating a rapidly changing environment marked by new regulatory demands, market dynamics, and structural challenges (...), functioning as a bridge between the global sustainability agenda and the realities of cocoa production at grassroots level."
