About Fairtrade Canada
Fairtrade Canada is part of the global Fairtrade system that encompasses Fairtrade International, our parent organization, along with regional producer networks and other national organizations like ours in countries worldwide.
Who is Fairtrade Canada?
Fairtrade Canada is the Canadian member of Fairtrade International. We are a national, non-profit organization and independent certifier that supports, promotes, and advocates for fairer terms of trade for farmers and workers disadvantaged by unfair global trade structures. Fairtrade represents better prices, decent working conditions, and fairer terms of trade for farmers and workers. We work with farmers and workers to get a better deal so they can strengthen their businesses and communities.
“Fairtrade Canada is proud to be part of this global network that includes almost 2 million farmers and workers. The team continues to grow in numbers but also in courage, kindness, and passion, striving to make a real difference for what matters to us most: people and the planet.”
Julie Francoeur, CEO, Fairtrade Canada
Our history
Since 1994, Fairtrade Canada has worked alongside grassroots activists, volunteers, civil society, and businesses to help build a flourishing fair trade movement in Canada. Our story is a history of the incredible people who make up our movement.
While most licensed products now use our international logo, the original "bucketboy" trademark is still owned by Fairtrade Canada and can be spotted across Canada.
