Türkiye is now a Fairtrade producer country, which means it has been added to the list of countries where raw materials for certified products can be sourced in Western Asia.

Fairtrade NAPP is pleased to announce that it will provide direct support to producers in Türkiye, following the expansion of the Fairtrade Geographical Scope Policy of Producer Certification to include the country—effective 1 July 2025. This decision, approved by the Fairtrade International Board of Directors in March 2025, comes in response to increasing demand from Fairtrade member organizations to source hazelnuts ethically and sustainably from the region.

As the designated supporting producer network, Fairtrade NAPP will work closely with interested producer organizations in Türkiye to guide them through the Fairtrade certification journey, offering technical assistance, orientation, and capacity building to meet Fairtrade’s rigorous social, economic, and environmental standards.

Fairtrade Germany’s extensive feasibility analysis—evaluating Türkiye’s economic context through OECD-DAC data, Gini index, and Human Development Index—confirmed the potential for positive impact, both for local producers and for the Fairtrade system.

FLOCERT, Fairtrade’s independent certifier, is now accepting certification applications from producer organizations in Türkiye. We look forward to supporting this exciting new chapter in advancing fairer trade and sustainable livelihoods in the region.
