Fairtrade NAPP Refresher Training Strengthens Standards, Premium Governance and Compliance at Kazi & Kazi Tea Estate
A four-day programme held from 10 to 13 August 2026 at Kazi & Kazi Tea Estate Ltd in Rawshanpur, Tetulia, Panchagarh, brought ten management representatives and fifteen worker members of the Fairtrade Premium Committee and the Fairtrade Compliance Committee, nine of them women. The programme closed with a visit across the estate and a joint review of how Fairtrade requirements are being put into practice.
On a certified tea estate, managers, committee members and workers each meet Fairtrade requirements from a different side. From 10 to 13 August 2026, Fairtrade NAPP worked with Kazi & Kazi Tea Estate Ltd, a Fairtrade certified Hired Labour organisation in Tetulia, Panchagarh, on a refresher that put all of them in the same room, working through the same requirements and agreeing who does what.
Management Representatives Back at the Centre of Daily Compliance
The opening session covered the Fairtrade Standards, the compliance requirements for a certified tea estate and the trade requirements behind every sale, from trading contracts and traceability to use of the FAIRTRADE Mark. Management representatives also reviewed earlier audit nonconformities alongside the corrective measures already taken, which turns an audit report into a working list with owners and dates, closed steadily through the year rather than in the weeks before the next audit.
A Premium Committee Clear on How Its Decisions Are Recorded
The Fairtrade Premium Committee met together with the management representatives to work through how the committee is composed and functions, how Premium decisions are taken and the documentation each decision needs. Workers decide together how the Fairtrade Premium is invested, and members left clearer on how a proposal becomes an approved Premium plan, with both sides agreeing on the same route.
Compliance Monitoring That Runs Through the Year, Led by Workers
The Fairtrade Compliance Committee session covered monitoring responsibilities, documentation and reporting, along with occupational health and safety, first aid and protective equipment, working conditions and labor rights, freedom from discrimination and sexual harassment, and freedom of association. Members are now better placed to raise concerns early and to record what was checked and what changed.
From the Training Room to the Plucking Areas and the Factory
The final day moved through the tea processing unit, the plucking areas, the dairy farm, the composting yard, the biogas facility and the Kazi Foundation, checking how requirements show up in practice and in the records kept at each point. Conversations with workers and community members, and a closing management discussion, set the follow up actions and showed where coordination between management and the committees can be strengthened.
Carrying the Work Forward at Tetulia
Fairtrade NAPP will organize a dedicated session on Human Rights and Environmental Due Diligence and continue providing technical guidance as the estate needs it. Participants also pointed to where the next stretch of work lies, in simpler documentation and record keeping formats every committee member can use fully. Certification is a journey, and these four days are one step the estate and Fairtrade NAPP took along it together.
