The leading voices of tomorrow - Fairtrade Ambassadors Programme kick-starts

When it comes to trade, the voices and expertise of Farmers and workers are central to making fair decisions. And yet their voices often go unheard, with their interests not represented across global supply chains. Fairtrade now launches a new ambassador programme to better equip them in taking a stand.

Launched on 25 May, the Fairtrade Ambassador Programme aims to increase producers’ awareness on advocacy matters, improve their leadership and public speaking skills, as well as train them on communicating impact effectively. The programme is divided into two modules and will train 15 candidates.

“I want the skills, qualities, and attributes I have built over the years to be put to good use and being a Fairtrade Ambassador will help me achieve that goal. I will get to work alongside like-minded people who are all striving to make a positive difference in everything they do.”

Mkhuleko Mhlonishwa Dlamini, Sugarcane farmer at the KDDPFFFTA cooperative in Eswatini.

15 candidates hailing from across the world have joined the programme after a thorough selection period. The represent a diverse range of countries, from India, Ecuador, and Uganda (amongst many others) and bring different perspectives when it comes to industries and commodities. But they all share a passion for social justice.

“I am the type of person who always aims to break stigmas and outdated societal norms. Through Fairtrade, I am motivated to raise my voice and take action. Our diverse thoughts, skills and talents are stronger together, so let us not watch and wait, let us advocate!”
