Volatile global market prices, power imbalances in supply chains and the consequences of climate change are tough challenges for farmers and workers.
Often too many trade risks and responsibilities are pushed onto these producers, making it difficult to achieve a price that pays for production and the labour going into it. New rules about respecting human rights within supply chains (HRDD) are coming into effect in several regions of the world.
Without fairer trade agreements, producers are most likely left to pay the price for such important ethical regulations. Meanwhile crops are threatened by rising temperatures, floods and other effects of the changing climate, again increasing the pressure on producers.
Under such challenging circumstances, Fairtrade Africa aims to strengthen producers and help them to build resilience.
