Using the FAIRTRADE Mark

The FAIRTRADE Mark (‘the Mark’) is a product label primarily intended for use on product packaging. It is licensed by Fairtrade International (FLO) and the national Fairtrade Labelling Initiatives (LI). With appropriate written permission, the Mark can also be used on wholesale packaging or for promotional use (e.g. posters, leaflets, web pages, etc).

All uses of the Mark (by licensees, producers, traders or third parties) on products or for promotional purposes require prior written approval from FLO or a Fairtrade LI.

Where to apply or request information

For licensees or third parties from countries with a Fairtrade LI, please contact the LI in your country. Follow this link for a list of countries with a labelling initiative. For third parties based in the Czech Republic, please contact the Fairtrade Marketing Organization (FMO) there at info@fairtrade-asociace.cz. Third parties based in South Africa contact the Fairtrade marketing organization in that country at info@fairtrade.org.za.

For all licensees and third parties from countries without a Fairtrade LI or FMO, and all producers and traders certified by FLO-CERT, please contact FLO at artwork@fairtrade.net.

FLO provides the relevant guidelines for proper usage of the Mark. All artwork incorporating the Mark must be submitted to FLO or your LI/FMO for approval. Requests are handled on a first-come, first-served basis. Please allow at least 3 weeks for final artwork approval for the use of the Mark when planning your printing or publishing of materials.

The process is as follows:

  • Contact FLO/LI/FMO,
  • Receive FAIRTRADE Mark guidelines and other relevant materials,
  • Submit artwork,
  • Artwork is revised and corrected if necessary,
  • Obtain written approval from FLO, LI or FMO,
  • Go to print/publish.

Please note that Fair Trade USA is no longer a member of the international Fairtrade system. Companies in the United States or companies selling into the United States should contact Fairtrade Canada at license@fairtrade.ca for more information on licensing the international Mark in the USA.

Do not change the Mark

The FAIRTRADE Mark is the equivalent of a person’s unique signature. The position, size, colour, and proportions of the Mark cannot be altered.

The Mark consists of a stylized representation of a human with an upraised arm appearing inside a circle, and the word "FAIRTRADE" below the circle.

Do not re-draw, re-create or cut out any parts of the Mark. Always get a high quality version of the graphic from FLO or your LI/FMO.

Special care must be taken not to associate the Mark with

  • any other brand, mark or identity,
  • products that have not been Fairtrade certified.

Confusing or misleading use of the Mark is prohibited.
