New Board Chair announced
Vice Chair marks the first time a small producer representative has held the position
Molly Harriss Olson of Eco Futures in Australia was elected Board Chair for Fairtrade International at the latest Board Meeting on 27 June in Boppard, Germany. She succeeds Esther Guluma, who continues to serve as an independent representative on the Board. (Click here for the full Board.)
Molly is Director of Eco Futures, an Australian-based international policy firm working on building sustainable strategies with business, government and civic leaders. She is Co-Founder of Earthmark and the Founder of the National Business Leaders Forum on Sustainable Development. She serves on the Boards of the Green Building Council of Australia, and is Chair of the Editorial Advisory Board of Ecos Magazine.
FLO also welcomes Marike de Peña as Board Vice Chair. This is the first time that a producer representative has served at such a high level on the Board. Marike de Peña is Vice President of the Latin American and Caribbean Network of Small Producer Organizations (CLAC). She is Director of Banelino, a banana co-operative in the Dominican Republic.
In other Board news, Ian Bretman stepped down after having served the full two terms on the Board. He has been replaced by trade union expert, Wanja Lundby-Wedin. Wanja has been President of the Swedish Trade Union Confederation since 2000. Between 2007 and 2011 she additionally took on the role of President of the European Trade Union Confederation. Wanja Lundby-Wedin began her trade union career in 1981 at the Swedish Municipal Workers’ Union, and has remained a passionate trade unionist ever since.
FLO would like to extend its sincere thanks to Esther Guluma for her hard work and dedication over the past months as Chair, and of course to Ian Bretman for his long-term commitment. FLO looks forward to the contributions to be made by the newly formed Board.
