On Friday, November 5th, the city of Bonn (home to FLO’s international offices) will be named a Fairtrade town. The announcement is part of the 4th International Fairtrade Towns Conference which will take place in Bonn from 5-6 November, 2010. Guests from around the world will join the conference to share ideas and experiences for promoting Fair Trade in their community and country.

To become a Fairtrade Town, communities must meet five requirements created by the International Campaign Fairtrade Towns. They include promoting Fairtrade in the community, ensuring that public facilities use Fairtrade products and that a certain number of supermarkets are selling such products. Additionally, the local media needs to promote the Fairtrade Town concept with articles throughout the year.

There are currently more than 800 Fairtrade Towns worldwide such as London, Brussels, Rome, or Copenhagen. And now Bonn will be part of the movement!
