Fair Trade Resource Network: Educating on All Things Fair Trade

20 October 2011

Knowledge is of two kinds. We know a subject ourselves, or we know where we can find information on it. – Samuel Johnson

With the mission of empowering people with knowledge, the Fair Trade Resource Network (FTRN) focuses exclusively on educating the public and advocates on all things Fair Trade. From books and films, teaching tools, forums, pen pal programmes, job listings, t-shirts and a wealth of free resources, FTRN is an online information hub with over 100 000 visitors a year.

Founded in 1999, FTRN is the only non-profit organization in the world focused exclusively on Fair Trade education. Growing in popularity, FTRN also organizes many events including North America’s largest annual Fair Trade event – World Fair Trade Day.

As the demand for Fair Trade products increases worldwide, so too does the need for comprehensive information. FTRN were the first in North America to launch webinars focusing solely on key issues in the field bringing the people in the know to those who want to know.

Fairtrade International participated for the first time in FTRN’s webinar How Strong Are Labor Rights in Fair Trade? and will collaborate with FTRN again on an upcoming webinar about new developments in Fairtrade in the USA.

“For years, discussion of the many key issues in Fair Trade was lacking in North America,” says Jeff Goldman, Executive Director of FTRN. “FTRN has created a balanced, productive space to discuss these issues, and having Fairtrade International, the dominant international certification scheme, participate in these public dialogues is very valuable for North American advocates as well as Fairtrade International to strengthening Fair Trade for producers.”

Information and access to Webinar 118:  A Community Discussion of What Fair Trade USA Leaving Fairtrade International Means for Producers and Fair Trade-Part 2 with Fairtrade panelist can be found at the FTRN website.
