Harriet Lamb, Chief Executive
Harriet Lamb began her Fairtrade career as Banana Coordinator at Fairtrade International before joining the Fairtrade Foundation in 2001. During her time at the Foundation, she oversaw a growth in sales from 37 million euros in 2001 to nearly 1.5 billion euros in 2011. Her work has taken her around the globe to spend time with farmers and workers and understand the challenges and impacts of Fairtrade.
Harriet is the author of “Fighting the Banana Wars and Other Fairtrade Battles,” published in 2008, and has won numerous awards for her contributions to sustainable development and business. Throughout her career, social justice has been a connecting thread. Harriet has worked with farmers and landless labourer cooperatives in India, campaigned on issues such as the national minimum wage in the UK, and the establishment of an EU code of conduct on arms sales.
Tuulia Syvänen, Executive Operating Officer
Tuulia Syvänen is Executive Operating Officer Officer at Fairtrade International. Since she started working at Fairtrade in February 2009, she has been strengthening the internal and external communication with member organizations, NGOs and business partners and reshaping Producer Services and Relations. Tuulia oversees the majority of operations at FLO, including Producer Services and Relations, Standards and Strategy, Brand and Communications, and Social Compliance and Workers Rights. Prior to joining Fairtrade International, Tuulia worked 10 years with Fairtrade Finland -- as Executive Director, Deputy Director, Product and Account manager, and Communications Officer. Before that, she has served in many NGO boards and committee in development and environmental organizations.
Tuulia is a journalist by training, with BA in Journalism and Mass Communication from University of Tampere. She has worked as a journalist in different newspapers and served in different communication and project management roles. She enjoys literature, movies, running and walking in nature.
Martin Hill, Director Global Account Management
Martin joined Fairtrade International in a senior capacity as Director, Global Account Management. Martin has an impressive background with an outstanding career to date in which he has held several senior positions in retail. He brings a huge wealth of experience from over 25 years with the ethically oriented UK Co-Operative Group where he worked as Chief Officer of the South-East region’s retailing division.
Before coming to Fairtrade International Martin was Commercial Director for the Fairtrade Foundation making significant progress in raising the profile and penetration of Fairtrade products within mainstream retailing. Martin has also been a key figure in the licensing successes of the Fairtrade Foundation. He played a leading role in capturing large-scale certification commitments from significant transnational companies such as Cadbury, Tate and Lyle, Ben & Jerry’s and Nestle, a huge step toward taking Fairtrade mainstream.
Andreas Kratz, Director of Strategy and Standards
Andreas is Director of Strategy and Standards at Fairtrade International. His work focuses on developing international Fairtrade Standards, including amendments to existing ones. Those standards are a tool for delivering Fairtrade’s desired impacts. He is also creating new strategies for the Fairtrade system to be fit for future. Before joining Fairtrade International, he gathered more than 10 years of experience as a quality manager with Ecocert, an organic certification organization. At Ecocert he built up a team of trained auditors and certification staff and installed a quality management system that ensured multiple accreditations.
Andreas holds an Agronomist Engineering degree from Georg August University in Göttingen, Germany. When he is not working, he can be found gardening or enjoying garden harvest with family and friends.
Renate Siemon, Director of Human Resources & Organisational Development
Renate is Director Human Resources and Organisational Development at Fairtrade International. Prior to joining Fairtrade International, she worked for the Deutsche Telekom Group in different HR functions. As a professional lawyer she started off as advisor on labour law in the real estate company of the group. Renate then changed into the group’s headquarter to the department of Human Resources Strategy and Board Member support, being responsible for the development of the group-wide HR strategy. As head of Human Resources Management at T-Systems Business Services she and her team of 15 HR managers supported the leaders of the organisation in all questions regarding their employees, including skills and development, resource management, recruiting, performance management and personnel costs.
Renate was able to use her skills in supporting the leaders in managing the change process with their employees after founding T-Systems Business Services in 2005 from three former companies of Deutsche Telekom AG. Renate studied law at the Westfalische Wilhelms-University in Munster.
Caroline Hickson, Director of Brand and Communications
Caroline, the Director of Brand and Communications, brings in major knowledge in brand development and strategic communications, together with significant senior management experience. She has over twenty years of experience in NGO and not for profit marketing, fundraising and communications across the USA, Ireland and the UK. Prior to joining Fairtrade International, Caroline spent seven years in positions of increasing responsibility at Concern Worldwide, Ireland’s largest INGO, in the areas of brand development, strategic communications and fundraising. There she oversaw a department raising € 40 million annually. During a period of organizational restructure she became Director of Public Affairs, leading teams for fundraising, communication, web, and active citizenship.
Caroline is a graduate of Trinity College, Dublin, with a BA in History and Spanish, and she recently achieved a first class honours grade in her Masters in International Relations from Dublin City University, which she completed while working full time.
